Post Hurricane Yard Work and Back Pain

After hurricane Michael, residents of Tallahassee had a-lot of cleaning up to do. With all this yard work on the agenda, we at Whitfield Chiropractic Clinic wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some safe practices when doing yard work to avoid injury. The American Chiropractic Association outlines a few simple things everyone can do to help prevent injuries in the yard.

– Plan to do yard work when its cool outside. For us Floridians, that means the earlier the better.

– Stay hydrated! Dehydration leads to muscle spasms.

– Bend at the knees and keep your back as straight as possible when bending and lifting.

– Wear appropriate shoes and clothing for the task at hand. Just because its hot out doesn’t mean sandals are the best call, pick something supportive!

– Always stretch.

If you think you’ve already over did it this weekend, give us a call at (850) 878-6233 and see what Dr. Whitfield can do for you! For more on safe yard work practices from the American Chiropractic Association, follow the link below.
